In other realities
you are here with me.
In other realities
you liked flowers
and didn’t see receiving them
as a waste
In other realities
I was a snake
and you were a vine.
We twisted and twined
around our own posts
two effervescent curls
In other realities
We had a second chance
do it proper
do it right
In other realities
I was the lips and tongue.
You were the ears
there was never something that was left unsaid
never something that was misunderstood
In other realities
we sat in separation sections on the 70 bus
heading toward downtown Seattle
barely looking up
in your Virginia Mason scrubs
In other realities
You were God
and I was the son
You winced in pain
as the knife was plunged
into my chest
for no angel arrived to stop Abraham
In other realities
We never met
This heart never broken
This poem never written
These pages blank
These tears never wept
